Strangely enough: lease or buy
Here’s an interesting story of a widow, Ester Strogen of Canton, Ohio, that rented two rotary phones for 42 years. Now at the age of 82 her granddaughters finally cancelled the lease which was currently $29.10 each month. They estimate that Strogen has payed more than $14,000 for the outdated black rotary phones.
According to the phone company, “Benefits of leasing include free replacements and the option of switching to newer models.”
It was a problem of ownership. In 1960, when millions of phones were leased, people could not afford the new technology. I cannot afford to pay for my sin, but Christ pays the price in full through His sacrifice on the Cross. I don’t have to keep paying for my sin. Christ payed the price completely. It is not a lease agreement. It is an agreement of ownership.
By the way, change is not easy. The elderly woman says, “I’d like to have my rotary back. I like that better.”
