Quote from Oz
This man amazes me. I know you can read this devotional for yourself, but it helps me to contemplate his thoughts here. Two thoughts for today. First, he speaks (literally, he spoke and his wife took notes by shorthand and published his works after his death)…. he speaks of how we tend to make the Christian life an experience using Christ as our pattern. Then he reminds us that:
The New Testament example of the Christian experience is that of a personal, passionate devotion to the Person of Jesus Christ. Every other kind of so-called Christian experience is detached from the Person of Jesus. There is no regeneration— no being born again into the kingdom in which Christ lives and reigns supreme. There is only the idea that He is our pattern. In the New Testament Jesus Christ is the Savior long before He is the pattern. Today He is being portrayed as the figurehead of a religion— a mere example. He is that, but He is infinitely more. He is salvation itself; He is the gospel of God! 1 (emphasis mine)
I want to experience that more - more often. I tend to fall into the live life with Christ as my example - wwjd variety of Christian. But that’s not the life of a believer. The life of a believer is primarily a relationship with the Savior.
That’s enough for today, but my second quote as going to come from today’s devotional. Why don’t you just read it for yourself and see what your definition of humble should be.
Be encouraged! - Jay
