iTunes Screen ShotYou might be searching for the perfect gift, the perfect house, or the perfect mate. However, Christ Himself is the perfect gift from Heaven that has been given to us. He has entered our imperfect world and wants to inhabit your imperfect life to prepare us for the perfection of Heaven.

Clean Up

Friday, December 14th, 2007

There have been several people asking about putting together a clean-up crew. If you or someone you know has a need for help with clean up in the Cameron area due to the Ice Storm, please call the church or email and let us know the details. We may not be able to address all the needs, but it would help to have a list that we can prioritize.

Christ in Christmas ideas

Christmas Card

Here are some ideas that will help you keep Christmas about Christ in your family and in the community:

  1. I was at the Baker’s during a Christmas Party and saw some little figures on the island in the kitchen. The pieces were part of a story that helped children understand some of the symbols of Christmas. Tina kindly retyped the story and it is here for you to download.
  2. This Sunday we will be handing out “Acts of Christmas” packs for you to take with you. Each pack contains 5 cards the size of a business card that says “Merry Christmas, I prayed for you today that you would know the love of Christ and how much he cares for you.” On the back it has church information. They are small enough to fit into a purse or pocket and you can give them away to service workers and others in the community. There is room on the front for you to sign it or write a note. You can:
    • attach it to cookies
    • attach to a candy cane
    • attach to another gift of some kind.
    • or just tip well and leave it on a table.

Feel free to share your ideas about keeping Christ the center of Christmas in the comments of this post.

December 23d* Sermon - Anticipating the Indescribable Gift (2 Corinthians 9:15)

1.       Pick and object in the room and describe as much as you can about it for 30 seconds.

3.       Is it easier to describe things or relationships?

4.       How would you describe the Trinity (God is one, but also Father, Son and Holy Spirit) to someone? How about faith?

5.       Describe your salvation experience out loud to someone? Tell about how you came to accept God’s free gift of salvation.

Getting ready - click to zoom inJoel and I stopped by the Methodist church this evening around 5:00 pm to see if anything was needed as they prepared to receive anyone in the area that needed shelter for the night. CERT (Cameron Emergency Response Team) was on hand to coordinate the efforts. Steve Clay went to St Joseph this afternoon and was able to get 40 of the 200 cots that were on hand from Red Cross. Some of these cots ended up going to the Plattsburg shelter while 26 of them were left in Cameron. Coffee, tea and cocoa were being readied by Carolyn and her team (shown below).

Steve Howell and I called many of our widows and others in the church that may or may Kitchen crew - click to zoom innot have anyone checking on them. It was a joy to talk with about 50 of our church members and let them know that we were thinking of them. So far, we really haven’t found anyone without heat or food.

Joel and I also had a chance to check on one of our neighbors whose furnace had stopped working overnight. We were able to find them some firewood in case they keep having trouble with the furnace. Thank you to Randy S. for donating the wood.

We ran out to Walmart just as it was getting dark to get a picture of the contract electrical crews that have been called in for the emergency. It was pretty impressive to see that many big trucks in one spot. After the picture, we saw three more coming down the road. They must be expecting something big tonight. Here’s a pic.

Family Huddle

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

Iced InWell, it seems that the ice is preventing us from getting together for worship today. Maybe, instead of this being a stumbling block, it can be a stepping stone. Michele and I prepared a “family worship” guide for you to use today. I think you will find it enjoyable and a great way to worship together.

You can get the worship guide here and then print it off to use. It is self-explanatory and should be easy and fun to use. There are no trick questions - it is designed for you to have success in worshipping together as a family.

See you again soon - after the thaw!

Techie update: I noticed that the archive format that I used to create the file can only work in Internet Explorer. So, if you your Firefox or (heaven forbid) some Apple type thing you may have to download this other file.
